What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on elderly patients aged 65 and older who are scheduled for transurethral prostatectomy. It aims to explore the connection between the Hemoglobin-to-Red Blood Cell Distribution Width (Hb/RDW) ratio and perioperative hypothermia. Researchers will collect preoperative blood test results and monitor intraoperative body temperature to assess this relationship. The study emphasizes the need for careful monitoring of frail elderly patients during surgical procedures.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are male patients aged 65 years or older scheduled for elective transurethral prostatectomy under general anesthesia.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing emergency surgery or those with conditions affecting thermoregulation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the safety and outcomes of surgical procedures for elderly patients by improving temperature management.
How similar studies have performed: While this study explores a specific relationship, similar observational studies have shown the importance of monitoring physiological metrics in elderly surgical patients.
