Investigating the link between oral bacteria and stroke
Access the Influence of Oral Microbiota in the Onset and Evolution of Stroke, With Focus on Cerebral Microbleeds
Fujian Medical University · NCT06479915
This study is trying to see if the types of bacteria in the mouth are different in stroke patients compared to healthy people to understand how oral health might affect the risk of strokes.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the differences in oral microbiota between stroke patients and healthy individuals by collecting saliva samples from both groups. It focuses on the role of oral bacteria, particularly Streptococcus mutans, in the development of cerebrovascular diseases. By analyzing these samples, the study seeks to provide insights into how oral health may influence the occurrence of strokes and establish a basis for future research in this area.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with microbleeding or damage to small blood vessels in the brain within the past year.
Not a fit: Patients who have received antibiotics in the last three months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the relationship between oral health and stroke risk, potentially leading to new preventive strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While the relationship between oral health and systemic diseases has been explored, this specific investigation into oral microbiota and stroke is relatively novel.
