Investigating the link between Epstein-Barr Virus and cancer risks
Prospective Cohort Study on Epstein-Barr Virus Antibody and Cancer Risks
This study is trying to see if higher levels of Epstein-Barr Virus antibodies are linked to a greater risk of different types of cancer in people from Southern China.

What this trial studies
This observational cohort study aims to explore the relationship between Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) antibody levels and the risk of various cancer types in Southern China. Participants will undergo EBV antibody testing at enrollment and will be followed annually to monitor cancer incidence and vital status. The study seeks to determine if EBV is associated with cancers beyond those already established, such as lymphomas and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and to assess the overall cancer burden attributed to EBV in the region.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are residents of Zhongshan or Wuzhou City without a history of cancer.
Not a fit: Patients with existing cancer or severe cardiovascular, liver, or kidney diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of EBV's role in cancer development, potentially leading to improved prevention strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there is growing molecular evidence linking EBV to various cancers, comprehensive epidemiological studies like this one are still emerging, making this approach relatively novel.
