What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the presence of an intracellular reservoir of Staphylococcus aureus in patients diagnosed with S. aureus bacteremia. The research will involve taking nasal swabs and venous samples to assess the frequency of this reservoir and its potential impact on patient prognosis. The study will also investigate whether the intracellular reservoir is linked to treatment failure and the role of autophagy in the survival of the bacteria. By understanding these mechanisms, the study seeks to shed light on the complexities of S. aureus infections.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with S. aureus bacteremia who are willing to participate and have not undergone nasal decolonization in the past year.

Not a fit: Patients currently on antibiotic therapy for more than five days or those with polymicrobial bacteremia may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for patients suffering from S. aureus bacteremia.

How similar studies have performed: While the concept of intracellular reservoirs in bacteria is being explored, this specific investigation into S. aureus bacteremia is novel and has not been extensively studied.
