What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effects of three different types of single limb exercise interventions on patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Participants will be divided into three groups, each receiving a distinct exercise regimen: continuous exercise training, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), or resistance training, all focused on one leg. The study will measure various outcomes including exercise capacity, muscle strength, lung function, electromyography, lactate levels, and quality of life to assess the effectiveness of these interventions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are COPD patients who are undergoing physiotherapy and can cooperate with the testing requirements.

Not a fit: Patients with severe orthopedic, neurological, or cardiovascular diseases, or those experiencing acute exacerbations of COPD may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance exercise performance and overall quality of life for COPD patients.

How similar studies have performed: While exercise training is a common intervention for COPD, the specific focus on single limb exercise is less explored, making this approach somewhat novel.
