What this trial studies

This study examines how elderly individuals aged 60 and older perform functional reaching movements, comparing those without shoulder pain to patients with a reverse shoulder arthroplasty. Using Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), researchers will analyze the execution of movements, the spatial relationships of the shoulder, elbow, and hand, and any compensatory movements in patients with shoulder prostheses. Participants will complete questionnaires about their daily functioning and undergo strength assessments before performing various reaching tasks. The goal is to gather insights that could enhance rehabilitation strategies for patients with shoulder issues.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include elderly individuals aged 60 and older, both those without shoulder pain and those with a primary reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

Not a fit: Patients younger than 60 years or those currently experiencing shoulder pain will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved rehabilitation techniques for patients with reverse shoulder arthroplasty, enhancing their functional recovery.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored shoulder movement patterns, this specific approach using IMUs in elderly populations is relatively novel.
