Investigating risk factors for sepsis after ERCP procedures

Intra-operative Hypotension and Sepsis After Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography: A Prospective Cohort Study

Observational Mansoura University · NCT06187168

What this trial studies

This observational cohort study aims to explore the relationship between unexplained hypotension during or shortly after endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and the occurrence of post-ERCP sepsis. Conducted at the Gastrointestinal Surgery Centre of Mansoura University in Egypt, the study will involve 50 adult patients undergoing ERCP for obstructive jaundice. The primary outcome measure will be the incidence of post-ERCP sepsis, while other related complications will also be assessed. The findings are expected to enhance understanding of ERCP-related risks and inform better patient management strategies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 18 years old who are undergoing ERCP for obstructive jaundice.

Not a fit: Patients who are already experiencing sepsis prior to the ERCP or are pregnant will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention strategies for post-ERCP sepsis, enhancing patient safety and outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific relationship between hypotension and post-ERCP sepsis is not widely studied, similar observational studies have shown promising results in understanding complications related to surgical procedures.
