What this trial studies

This study focuses on vulvovaginal candidiasis, a common yeast infection affecting many women. It aims to explore the relationship between Candida fungi, the vaginal microbiome, and the immune system to better understand recurrent infections. Participants will receive treatments including Fluconazole and Boric Acid to assess their effectiveness. The study seeks to clarify why some women experience recurrent infections despite treatment.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are females aged 18 to 50 who experience recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis.

Not a fit: Patients who are currently pregnant, trying to get pregnant, have had a hysterectomy, or have bacterial vaginosis will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved treatment strategies for women suffering from recurrent yeast infections.

How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research in this area, the specific approach of linking the microbiome and immune response to recurrent infections is relatively novel.
