What this trial studies
This observational study examines the survival and neurological outcomes of patients who experienced out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in Bern, Switzerland, between 2015 and 2018. It aims to analyze data retrospectively to establish a baseline for future evaluations of extracorporeal CPR (eCPR) as a treatment option for OHCA. The study builds on findings from the EuReCa ONE Study, which highlighted regional differences in cardiac arrest outcomes across Europe. By focusing on a specific geographic area, the study seeks to provide insights into the effectiveness of current resuscitation practices and the potential benefits of eCPR.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who suffered from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the Bern region between 2015 and 2017.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously declined to participate in studies due to advance directives will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve survival rates and neurological outcomes for patients experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown varying success with similar approaches, but this specific evaluation of eCPR in Bern is novel.
