What this trial studies

This observational study aims to assess the prevalence of Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) infection and its associated antimicrobial resistance patterns among HIV-infected males in Hong Kong. A total of 750 participants will be recruited from an HIV specialist clinic, where they will complete an online questionnaire and self-collect samples for testing. The study will utilize nucleic acid amplification tests to screen for MG, Chlamydia trachomatis, and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, as well as to detect resistance mutations. Clinical data will be gathered from medical records to provide a comprehensive understanding of co-infections and resistance patterns.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are HIV-infected males aged 18 or older who attend an HIV specialist clinic and can communicate in English or Chinese.

Not a fit: Patients who are not HIV-infected or unable to provide consent will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of MG infections and resistance in HIV-infected men, leading to improved treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While studies on Mycoplasma genitalium have been conducted, this specific focus on HIV-infected males in Hong Kong may provide novel insights into antimicrobial resistance patterns.
