Investigating miRNA in Follicular Fluid During Oocyte Maturation
Investigation of Follicular Fluid Exosome miRNA in Young and Aged Women During Oocyte Maturation
Chinese University of Hong Kong · NCT04382872
This study is testing how certain tiny molecules in the fluid around eggs might affect their development and quality in young and older women who are preparing for fertility treatments like IVF.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the role of microRNA (miRNA) in follicular fluid exosomes during the maturation of oocytes in both young and aged women. It focuses on understanding how these miRNAs relate to the developmental competence of oocytes, particularly in the context of age-related declines in fertility. By analyzing the hormonal and paracrine interactions within the ovarian environment, the study seeks to uncover the underlying mechanisms affecting oocyte quality and maturation. Participants will include women aged 20 to 45 who are planning to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 20 to 45 with a BMI between 19 and 35 who are planning to undergo IVF and ICSI.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have a BMI over 35, or have specific reproductive health issues such as endometriosis or chromosomal abnormalities may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of oocyte maturation and improve fertility treatments for women, particularly those of advanced reproductive age.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of analyzing miRNA in follicular fluid exosomes is relatively novel, similar studies have indicated potential insights into oocyte quality and maturation.
