Investigating long-term outcomes of bile duct stone treatment
Recurrent Extrahepatic Bile Duct Stones as a Late Complication of ERCP in Patients With Coexisting Intra- and Extrahepatic Bile Duct Stones:a Long-term Retrospective Cohort Study

What this trial studies
This observational study examines patients who have both intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct stones and were treated with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). It aims to assess the long-term clinical outcomes and the recurrence of extrahepatic bile duct stones following ERCP. By analyzing patient data from Xijing Hospital in China, the study seeks to identify risk factors associated with the recurrence of these stones. The findings could provide valuable insights into the management of this complex condition.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients with coexisting intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct stones who underwent ERCP between July 2008 and December 2020.
Not a fit: Patients with benign or malignant extrahepatic bile duct strictures, liver cirrhosis, or those with unavailable medical records will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of recurrence rates and risk factors, leading to better management strategies for patients with bile duct stones.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach is observational and retrospective, similar studies have provided insights into bile duct stone management, suggesting potential for meaningful findings.
