What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the incidence, patterns, risk factors, and outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with liver cirrhosis at Sohag University Hospital. AKI is a significant concern in cirrhotic patients, with high rates of occurrence and mortality. The study will analyze serum creatinine levels to identify and manage AKI early, potentially improving patient outcomes. The findings will contribute to the limited existing knowledge on this condition in the local context.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are cirrhotic patients over 18 years old receiving care at Sohag University Hospital.
Not a fit: Patients with preexisting chronic kidney disease, those who have undergone renal transplantation, or those with malignancy or pregnancy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved identification and management of acute kidney injury in patients with liver cirrhosis, potentially reducing mortality rates.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited local research on this topic, similar studies in other regions have highlighted the importance of understanding AKI in cirrhotic patients, suggesting potential for valuable insights.
