What this trial studies
This study examines the occurrence of emerging infections following the placement of a peritoneal dialysis catheter in patients with end-stage renal disease. It involves collecting data through questionnaires to assess infection rates and related factors. The research aims to improve understanding of infection risks associated with peritoneal dialysis and enhance patient care protocols. Participants will be monitored for infection development during the healing period of the catheter exit site.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include men and women aged 18 to 80 with end-stage renal disease starting peritoneal dialysis.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, legally incapacitated, or unable to understand the study's purpose may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved infection prevention strategies for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown a decline in PD-related infections, indicating that similar approaches may have been effective.
