Investigating hyperventilation in patients with chronic low back pain
Hyperventilation in Patients With Chronic Low Back Pain

What this trial studies
This study aims to explore the relationship between chronic low back pain (LBP) and hyperventilation, focusing on how impaired postural control may be linked to these conditions. Researchers will assess patients with chronic primary LBP for signs of hyperventilation, using both objective measures of carbon dioxide levels and subjective symptom reporting. Additionally, the study will evaluate the role of psychosocial factors in this relationship. The findings could provide insights into the underlying mechanisms of LBP and inform potential therapeutic approaches.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with chronic primary low back pain lasting more than 12 weeks.
Not a fit: Patients with conditions such as chronic obstructive lung disease, major psychiatric conditions, or those who have undergone spinal surgery may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved management strategies for patients suffering from chronic low back pain by addressing underlying hyperventilation issues.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific relationship between hyperventilation and chronic low back pain is not extensively studied, similar investigations into breathing patterns and pain management have shown promising results.
