What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the relationship between maternal hormone levels and child growth and adiposity. It will analyze concentrations of leptin, insulin, LEAP2, and cortisol in both plasma and breast milk from lactating women with normal weight and those with pre-pregnancy overweight or obesity. Participants will provide milk and blood samples, allowing researchers to compare the hormonal profiles and their associations with infant growth and obesity outcomes. The study seeks to understand how maternal and infant hormones and their receptors influence child development.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are lactating women with pre-pregnancy normal weight or overweight/obesity.

Not a fit: Patients with diabetes, multiple pregnancies, hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, or those who delivered pre-term infants will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into how maternal health impacts child growth and obesity, potentially guiding interventions for at-risk populations.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored maternal influences on child health, this specific focus on hormonal associations in the context of obesity is relatively novel.
