What this trial studies
This study examines the bioavailability of human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) in healthy adults, focusing on their absorption and metabolic effects. HMOs are known to support a balanced intestinal microbiome and have antimicrobial properties. Participants will receive HMOs or a control to assess how these compounds are utilized by gut bacteria and their potential health benefits. The study aims to provide insights into the role of HMOs in gut health and overall well-being.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18-40 with a normal weight and no chronic health conditions.
Not a fit: Patients with metabolic diseases, chronic inflammatory conditions, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of gut health and lead to dietary recommendations that improve microbiome balance in adults.
How similar studies have performed: While HMOs have been extensively studied in infants, this investigation in healthy adults is relatively novel and untested.
