Investigating how certain genetic mutations affect protein S activity measurements
Interference by Activated Protein C Resistance in the Determination of Protein S Activity

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the impact of activated protein C resistance on the measurement of protein S activity. It focuses on patients who have undergone testing for protein S activity at the HUS Hematology Laboratory between 2009 and 2020. The study will analyze how mutations in factor V, such as V Leiden, may lead to underestimations of protein S activity when using standard chronometric techniques. By examining these relationships, the study seeks to improve the accuracy of protein S activity assessments.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who have had their protein S activity measured at the HUS Hematology Laboratory during the specified timeframe.
Not a fit: Patients who are minors or those with incomplete data will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate assessments of protein S activity, improving patient management and treatment strategies for those with coagulation disorders.
How similar studies have performed: While this study addresses a specific aspect of protein S activity measurement, similar studies have indicated that genetic factors can significantly influence coagulation assessments, suggesting potential for meaningful findings.
