What this trial studies

This study aims to explore the relationship between various etiological factors and the histochemical characteristics of gallbladder stones in pediatric patients. It will be conducted as a prospective cohort study at Sohag University Hospital, running from October 2024 to August 2025. Eligible participants include children under 18 years with symptomatic gallbladder stones or specific asymptomatic cases, while those over 18 or with certain biliary anomalies will be excluded. The primary intervention involves cholecystectomy followed by histochemical analysis of the stones.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children under 18 years with symptomatic gallbladder stones or specific asymptomatic cases.

Not a fit: Patients over 18 years or those with certain biliary anomalies will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of gallbladder stones in children, potentially leading to improved treatment strategies.

How similar studies have performed: While there may be studies on gallbladder stones in adults, this specific focus on pediatric cases and their etiological factors is relatively novel.
