Investigating fluid collection encapsulation in acute pancreatitis using MRI
Tracking the ENcapsulation of Pancreatic Collections in Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis. A Serial MRI Based Prospective Study (MRI-ENCAP Study)
This study is trying to see how and when fluid collections in the belly change over time in people with severe pancreatitis using regular MRI scans.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to track the encapsulation of necrotic fluid collections in patients with acute necrotizing pancreatitis (ANP) through serial non-enhanced MRI scans. Participants will be recruited within two weeks of pain onset and will undergo MRI starting at day 15, with subsequent scans every five days until significant encapsulation is observed or they are excluded from the study. The study will evaluate the timing of encapsulation and identify factors influencing this process, with assessments made by independent radiologists. The findings may provide insights into the natural progression of fluid collections in ANP.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals diagnosed with acute necrotizing pancreatitis who present to the hospital within two weeks of the onset of pain.
Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to non-enhanced MRI or those with acute on chronic pancreatitis may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of the encapsulation process in acute pancreatitis, potentially leading to better management strategies for patients.
How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored aspects of acute pancreatitis, this specific approach using serial MRI for encapsulation tracking is relatively novel.
