Investigating factors that predict diabetes after pancreas surgery
Investigating Predictive Factors of Diabetes Occurence After Duodenalpancreatectomy
This study looks at how certain factors might lead to diabetes after pancreas surgery by testing blood sugar control in people who are having the surgery, both those who already have diabetes and those who don't.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to explore the mechanisms regulating islet cell plasticity in individuals undergoing duodenal pancreatectomy. Researchers will assess glucose homeostasis using in vivo studies, including hyperglycemic clamps and mixed meal tests, prior to surgery. The focus is on understanding how these mechanisms may influence the occurrence of diabetes post-surgery, particularly in relation to beta cell function and glucose metabolism. The study will include both diabetic and non-diabetic patients scheduled for the procedure.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals scheduled for duodenal pancreatectomy, both diabetic and non-diabetic.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases or those undergoing steroid therapy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to better predictive tools for diabetes occurrence after pancreatic surgery, potentially improving patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study is unique, previous research has shown promise in understanding islet cell dynamics and their role in diabetes.
