Investigating Demodex Mite Density in Psoriasis Patients on Biologic Therapy
Association Between Biologic Therapy and Demodex Density in Psoriasis Patients: A Comparative Study
This study is trying to see if psoriasis patients on biologic treatments have more or fewer Demodex mites on their skin compared to those who aren't using these medications.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to compare the density of Demodex mites in psoriasis patients treated with biologic agents to those who are treatment-naive or using topical treatments. It employs a cross-sectional design, utilizing a standardized skin surface biopsy technique to assess Demodex density in four facial areas. The study will collect demographic data and treatment regimens while evaluating for other skin conditions associated with increased Demodex. Conducted at Istanbul Medeniyet University, the study seeks to determine if biologic therapy influences Demodex intensity in psoriasis patients.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include psoriasis patients who are either receiving biologic therapy, using topical treatments, or are treatment-naive.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing systemic therapies other than biologic agents, such as methotrexate or cyclosporin, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide insights into the relationship between biologic therapy and Demodex density, potentially guiding treatment decisions for psoriasis patients.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific approach is novel, similar studies have explored the relationship between skin conditions and Demodex density, indicating potential for meaningful findings.
