Investigating COVID-19 in hospitalized children in Norway
COVID-19 in Hospitalised Norwegian Children - Risk Factors, Outcomes and Immunology
This study looks at how COVID-19 affects children in hospitals in Norway to see what makes some kids sicker than others and to understand the long-term effects of the virus.

What this trial studies
This prospective cohort study examines COVID-19 infection among children in Norway, focusing on three main areas: epidemiological risk factors, the natural history of the disease including immunological responses, and long-term effects such as post-infectious fatigue. Children aged 0-18 years admitted to hospitals with suspected COVID-19 will be followed for six months, with those confirmed to have the virus serving as cases and those without as controls. The study aims to identify risk factors for severe outcomes, understand the immune response to the infection, and assess the prevalence of long-lasting complications.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 0-18 years who are hospitalized with suspected COVID-19.
Not a fit: Patients over the age of 18 or those without suspected COVID-19 will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of COVID-19 in children, leading to improved treatment and prevention strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored COVID-19 in pediatric populations, but this specific approach focusing on risk factors and long-term outcomes is relatively novel.
