Investigating color changes in chronic atrophic gastritis and early gastric cancer

Color Information From Linked Color Imaging is Associated With Mucosal Microvascular Density in Chronic Atrophic Gastritis and Early Gastric Cancer

Observational Affiliated Hospital to Academy of Military Medical Sciences · NCT06152263

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the relationship between color changes and mucosal microvascular density in patients diagnosed with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and early gastric cancer (EGC). Using linked color imaging (LCI), the study will capture images of the mucosa during esophagogastroduodenoscopy and quantify color values based on the International Commission on Illumination color space. Histopathological analysis will be performed on biopsy or resected specimens to evaluate microvascular density. The study will enroll 10 patients at the Fifth Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital between September and December 2023.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are patients diagnosed with chronic atrophic gastritis or early gastric cancer confirmed by esophagogastroduodenoscopy.

Not a fit: Patients with severe anemia, portal hypertension, or those with inappropriate LCI images due to bleeding or ulceration may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the early detection and diagnosis of chronic atrophic gastritis and early gastric cancer through improved imaging techniques.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using linked color imaging is relatively novel, previous studies have indicated a correlation between color changes and gastrointestinal lesions, suggesting potential for success.
