Investigating blood clotting changes in meningioma surgery

Meningioma and Embolism Thrombosis Risk & Investigation of Coagulation

University Hospital Tuebingen · NCT06709833

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to explore the coagulation and platelet function changes that occur in patients undergoing surgical resection of meningiomas, which are generally benign tumors but can lead to thrombembolic complications. Blood samples will be collected from patients before and immediately after their tumor resection to assess these changes. A control group of patients undergoing glioma resection will also be included to compare the coagulation responses. The study seeks to uncover the molecular mechanisms behind the increased thrombosis risk associated with meningiomas.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients scheduled for surgical resection of meningiomas or gliomas, as well as healthy controls.

Not a fit: Patients who are not undergoing surgery for meningiomas or gliomas, or those who do not provide written consent, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved understanding and management of thrombembolic risks in patients undergoing meningioma surgery.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific focus on meningiomas and their coagulation changes is novel, similar studies on gliomas have shown success in understanding coagulation dynamics.
