Investigating blood clots after central venous catheter removal
Venous Thrombosis After Removal of Central Venous Catheter-prospective Observational Study
This study is trying to see if patients who have had a central venous catheter removed in the ICU develop blood clots at the insertion sites and if they might need blood thinners to prevent this.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to assess the occurrence of venous thrombosis in patients who have had a central venous catheter inserted and subsequently removed during their stay in the intensive care unit. The study will utilize ultrasound to detect any thrombi at the catheter insertion sites, as current literature lacks clear data on this complication. By identifying the rate of thrombosis post-removal, the study seeks to clarify whether anticoagulant treatment should be administered in these cases. The findings could lead to improved management protocols for patients with central venous catheters.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients admitted to the intensive care unit who had a central catheter inserted and removed during their hospitalization.
Not a fit: Patients who had their central catheter inserted or removed outside of the intensive care unit or those receiving full anticoagulation treatment will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance patient safety by informing guidelines on anticoagulant use after catheter removal.
How similar studies have performed: There is limited data on similar studies, making this approach relatively novel and untested.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: Patients who were admitted to the intensive care unit and had a central catheter inserted during their stay in the unit for any reason, and whose central catheter was removed during their stay in the general intensive care unit. \- Exclusion Criteria:Patients whose insertion or removal of the central catheter did not occur during the hospitalization in the intensive care unit, patients who were treated with full anticoagulation in the intensive care unit. \-
