Investigating Atrial Fibrillation After Heart Surgery
Incidence and Risk Factors of Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation in Cardiac Surgery Patients

What this trial studies
This multicenter observational study aims to investigate the incidence and identify risk factors associated with postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients undergoing cardiac surgery at three medical centers in Thailand. The study will collect data on patient demographics, comorbidities, surgical procedures, and postoperative complications to understand the factors contributing to POAF. By analyzing these variables, the research seeks to develop preventive strategies and improve management protocols for patients at high risk for this complication.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years and older who are undergoing cardiac valve surgery or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
Not a fit: Patients undergoing aortic surgery, MAZE procedures, or those with incomplete medical records will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved prevention and management strategies for patients at risk of developing postoperative atrial fibrillation, enhancing their recovery and overall outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown varying success in identifying risk factors for postoperative atrial fibrillation, making this approach both relevant and necessary for improving patient care.
