What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of different interventions for adults with anxiety and depressive symptoms in Portugal. Participants will be divided into four groups: one receiving electrostimulation, another combining relaxation with guided imagery and electrostimulation, a third group practicing relaxation with guided imagery, and a placebo group. The study will evaluate the impact of these interventions on psychological and physical health, emotional regulation, and quality of life over time through a longitudinal design with three evaluation points. The goal is to determine the effectiveness of these interventions in reducing psychological morbidity and improving life satisfaction.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults exhibiting clinical levels of psychological morbidity, specifically those with scores greater than 11 on the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS).

Not a fit: Patients with personality disorders, psychosis, bipolar disorder, or those experiencing suicidal ideation will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide effective non-pharmacological treatment options for individuals suffering from anxiety and depression.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using cognitive behavioral therapy and relaxation techniques for treating anxiety and depression, suggesting that this approach may be effective.
