What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial evaluates the effectiveness of an internet-based guided self-help intervention called the EMPOWER program, designed for medical professionals experiencing depression and anxiety. The program is based on Problem Solving Therapy and aims to improve mental health by enhancing coping skills for work-related issues. Participants will engage in four 30-minute self-paced sessions over four weeks, with outcomes measured against a wait-list control group. The study seeks to address the unique barriers faced by medical professionals in seeking mental health support.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include frontline doctors and nurses aged 18-60 in Hong Kong who are experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of depression and/or anxiety.
Not a fit: Patients currently taking psychotropic medication or those who are actively suicidal may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the mental health and well-being of medical professionals, leading to better work performance and reduced burnout.
