What this trial studies
The TEAM-ED program uses streamlined access to screening, computer-based diagnostic assessment, and interdisciplinary treatment planning to identify and manage disordered eating in adults after bariatric surgery. This interventional implementation study will measure reach, clinical effectiveness, and adoption of the pathway within the Nova Scotia health system. Eligible participants are adults aged 19 or older who are 3–18 months post-weight-loss surgery and can complete English computer self-report questionnaires. The program is delivered at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax and combines clinical outcomes with implementation metrics to determine feasibility and impact.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 19 or older who are between 3 and 18 months after bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, reside in Nova Scotia, and can complete English computer-based questionnaires are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients under 19, more than 18 months post-surgery, living far from Halifax, unable to complete English computer questionnaires, or requiring urgent inpatient psychiatric care are unlikely to benefit from this outpatient implementation program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could improve early detection and timely, tailored care for disordered eating after bariatric surgery, potentially reducing weight-regain and related complications.
How similar studies have performed: Prior interdisciplinary and behavioral programs after bariatric surgery have shown promise for improving disordered eating and follow-up, but implementing a coordinated TEAM-ED pathway in a regional Canadian health system is relatively novel.
