What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of the Comprehensive Hand Repetitive Intensive Strength Training (CHRIST) program aimed at improving upper limb muscle strength in children aged 6 to 12 years with hemiplegic cerebral palsy. The study involves a randomized control trial design with 30 participants divided into an experimental group receiving intensive training and a control group receiving routine physical therapy. Each participant will undergo 30 sessions over ten weeks, focusing on enhancing their ability to perform daily activities. Data will be collected using standardized tests to assess hand function and muscle tone.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 6 to 12 years with hemiplegic cerebral palsy who have normal communication skills and cognitive function.
Not a fit: Patients with musculoskeletal damage, such as fractures or contractures, or those on medications affecting muscle strength will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the upper limb strength and functional abilities of children with cerebral palsy, enhancing their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with similar intensive strength training approaches in improving motor function in children with cerebral palsy.
