Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western medicine care for adults with obesity

Real-World Prospective Registry Study of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Interventions in Patients With Obesity

Observational Hubei Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine · NCT07448090

What this trial studies

This is a multicenter, prospective, observational registry enrolling at least 10,000 adults with obesity from urban and rural populations in China. Participants receive routine clinical care without assigned interventions while researchers collect electronic medical records, laboratory tests, imaging, and lifestyle information. The registry will document real-world integrated TCM and Western medicine management and compare outcomes across age groups, disease stages, and TCM constitution types. Health economic analyses and disease progression pattern analyses will be performed to identify key prevention and treatment points.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older with BMI ≥ 28.0 kg/m2, weight fluctuation ≤ 5% in the prior 3 months, able to consent and comply with follow‑up, and without severe organ disease or secondary/iatrogenic obesity are appropriate candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with secondary or iatrogenic obesity, significant heart/liver/lung/kidney/brain or blood disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those the investigator deems unsuitable are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the project could help personalize obesity care by identifying effective, safe, and cost‑effective combinations of TCM and Western treatments.

How similar studies have performed: Smaller clinical and observational studies have suggested benefits from combining TCM and Western approaches for obesity, but high‑quality large-scale real-world evidence remains limited.
