What this trial studies
The Teddy Bear Injury Clinic (TBIC) is an innovative educational intervention designed to teach injury prevention to kindergarten and first grade students aged 5-7 years. This 40-minute program includes classroom teaching on safety topics followed by role-play where students care for their teddy bears, reinforcing the safety messages learned. The study will initially collect qualitative data to assess the program's effectiveness, followed by a randomized controlled trial comparing the TBIC group to a control group receiving non-trauma related education. Statistical analysis will evaluate the impact of the TBIC on students' understanding of injury prevention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are kindergarten and first grade students within the catchment area of the hospital.
Not a fit: Students who do not provide consent or assent for participation will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly enhance injury prevention knowledge among young children, potentially reducing trauma injuries.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically targeting K-1 students with an injury prevention model, similar educational interventions have shown promise in other age groups.
