Injury Incidence, Severity and Burden Over Two Consecutive Seasons in French Elite Youth Rugby Players of Rugby Club Toulonnais

Observational Centre Hospitalier Intercommunal de Toulon La Seyne sur Mer · NCT07355582

This project will collect routine medical records to see how often injuries happen and how severe they are in boys and girls aged about 13–18 in the Rugby Club Toulonnais youth program over two seasons.

What this trial studies

This closed observational cohort uses retrospective and prospective routine medical data recorded in the Askamon system to describe incidence, severity, and days lost for rugby-related injuries across the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 seasons. Participants are male and female players licensed with the RCT Association from U14 to U18 who receive medical follow-up through the club; only injuries requiring medical consultation are included. The study does not change clinical care—injuries are managed per usual practice and details are entered into the electronic record for surveillance. Collected data on injury type, location, circumstances, exposure and time lost will be summarized to characterize burden and inform prevention efforts.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are boys or girls aged roughly 13–18 who are licensed in the RCT Association from the U14 category upward, under club medical supervision, and who had at least one injury requiring medical consultation between August 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026.

Not a fit: Players who are not under the RCT Association's medical care, who had no injury requiring consultation during the study window, or whose parents/guardians object to participation are unlikely to benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could guide targeted injury-prevention and training changes within the club and similar youth rugby programs to reduce injuries and time lost from sport.

How similar studies have performed: Similar injury surveillance studies in youth and professional sports using routine medical records have produced actionable epidemiological data, so the approach is established though results are setting- and population-specific.
