Infrared heating versus therapeutic massage as passive warm-ups before exercise
The Comparison of Different Passive Warm-Up Methods Prior to Exercise on Balance and Jump Performance
This will see if using infrared heating or therapeutic massage before exercise improves jumping, balance, and leg flexibility in healthy 18–35‑year‑olds.

What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial compares two passive warm-up methods—infrared heating and therapeutic massage—in healthy young adults aged 18–35. Participants are randomized to receive one of the two passive warm-ups and then perform tests of vertical and horizontal jump, dynamic and static balance, and lower‑extremity flexibility. Outcomes are measured acutely before and after the intervention to detect immediate changes in performance. The protocol excludes individuals with recent musculoskeletal injuries, surgeries, neurological, vestibular, or cardiovascular conditions.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy 18–35‑year‑olds without recent musculoskeletal injuries or neurological, vestibular, or cardiovascular conditions who can attend testing in Istanbul.
Not a fit: People older than 35, those with active musculoskeletal problems, recent lower‑extremity or spine surgery, or neurological/vestibular/cardiac disease are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help active young adults and coaches choose a passive warm-up that produces small immediate gains in jump performance, balance, or flexibility.
How similar studies have performed: Previous research on passive heating and massage shows mixed but sometimes positive short-term effects on muscle flexibility and jump performance, though balance results are inconsistent.
