What this trial studies

This project investigates the relationship between physical activity and mental health in adolescents aged 12-17 who have low levels of physical activity and are referred to a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP) clinic. It aims to assess whether a structured exercise intervention, including supervised training, school-based activities, and home-based support, can enhance motivation for physical activity and improve psychiatric symptoms and quality of life. The study will compare the outcomes of this intervention against standard treatment practices to determine its effectiveness. By addressing the lack of physical activity in this population, the project seeks to provide insights that could inform future mental health guidelines.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents aged 12-17 with low levels of physical activity and referred to a CAP clinic.

Not a fit: Patients with serious eating disorders or other health conditions that contraindicate exercise may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve mental health outcomes and quality of life for adolescents struggling with mental health issues.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically in Norway, existing studies have shown positive effects of exercise on mental health in similar populations, suggesting potential for success.
