In-person enrollment to the APT Web Registry

A Randomized Trial of Financial Incentives for In-Person Recruitment of Individuals to the Alzheimer's Prevention Trial (APT) Webstudy

NA · University of Southern California · NCT07218120

This project will test whether offering a small $25 incentive, versus a reusable grocery bag, helps people aged 50 and older—especially women, Black and Latino community members, and lower-income older adults—sign up for the Alzheimer's Prevention Trial (APT) Web Registry when approached at community events.

What this trial studies

The study compares two in-person recruitment incentives—a $25 financial incentive and a reusable grocery bag—to see which yields higher enrollment into the APT Web Registry. Recruitment will occur at community locations such as Northgate Gonzalez Market and local food bank events, with staff inviting adults aged 50+ to sign up using their email. Eligible participants must read English or Spanish and cannot have a current dementia diagnosis. The team will measure enrollment rates under each incentive and calculate the cost to recruit each additional person.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are adults aged 50 or older who can read English or Spanish, have email access, and do not have a current dementia diagnosis.

Not a fit: People with a current dementia diagnosis, those younger than 50, or those without reliable email access are not expected to benefit or be eligible for this recruitment approach.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this method could increase enrollment of underrepresented groups into Alzheimer's prevention registries and help make future trials more representative.

How similar studies have performed: Small monetary incentives have increased participation in other public health and community research, but evidence is limited specifically for Alzheimer's prevention registries.
