What this trial studies
This project aims to evaluate the effectiveness of in-home respite services in alleviating caregiver burnout and enhancing mental wellbeing among caregivers of older adults. Caregivers are assessed and categorized into mild and moderate needs levels using a self-developed screening tool, with those in these categories receiving either 12 or 36 hours of respite care. The intervention involves trained volunteers providing care to the older adults, allowing caregivers to take time for themselves. Assessments of mental health and caregiving burden are conducted before, immediately after, and at 3, 6, and 12 months post-intervention to measure outcomes. A control group receiving no respite services is also included for comparison.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are caregivers aged 18 or older who provide at least 6 hours of care per week to homebound older adults.
Not a fit: Patients whose care recipients are already receiving long-term care services may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce caregiver burnout and improve the mental health of caregivers.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown positive outcomes with similar respite care approaches, indicating potential for success in this project.
