What this trial studies
This project implements a self-affirmation intervention for individuals with Type 2 diabetes to mitigate the negative psychosocial effects of stigma. Participants will engage in writing exercises that reinforce their self-worth before attending wellness appointments with their endocrinologists. The study aims to assess whether self-affirmation can reduce feelings of stigmatization, enhance self-efficacy in managing diabetes, and improve blood glucose control. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the self-affirmation intervention or a waitlist control group, with the latter receiving the intervention after the study period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes who currently use a continuous glucose monitor.
Not a fit: Patients under 18 years of age or those not using a continuous glucose monitor may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance the psychological well-being and diabetes management of patients by reducing stigma and improving self-efficacy.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results using self-affirmation techniques to improve psychological outcomes, suggesting potential success for this approach.
