What this trial studies
This project aims to transition the management of childhood obesity from specialty care to primary care settings. It focuses on creating a sustainable clinical model that enhances nutritional health and reduces obesity and its related complications among children and adolescents. The study will track changes in BMI, hemoglobin A1c, liver enzymes, and lipid levels in patients managed by board-certified pediatricians in obesity medicine. Additionally, it will monitor patient adherence, follow-up, and retention to ensure effective weight management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children with obesity, defined as a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2 or above the 95th percentile for their age.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have obesity or do not require weight management may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to improved health outcomes and reduced risk of metabolic diseases in children and adolescents.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in integrating obesity management into primary care, indicating that this approach is promising and not entirely novel.
