What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on enhancing the methods used to assess vision and treat sight loss in older adults aged 65 and above who have experienced a fall and attended a hospital. It involves gathering insights from healthcare professionals and service users through focus groups and interviews, as well as utilizing a Delphi survey to develop effective interventions. The study aims to address the significant impact of falls and vision problems on the independence and quality of life of older adults.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include older adults aged 65 and above who have had at least one fall requiring emergency department attendance.
Not a fit: Patients who have not sought secondary care following a fall or those unable to provide informed consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved vision screening and treatment protocols, potentially reducing the incidence of falls among older adults.
How similar studies have performed: While there is ongoing research into falls prevention and vision assessment, this specific approach combining both aspects in older adults is relatively novel.
