Improving ultrasound-guided nerve blocks with artificial intelligence

Accuracy Study of an AI-based, Real-time Anatomy Identification Tool for Use in Ultrasound-guided PENG (Pericapsular Nerve Block) and Suprainguinal Fascia Iliaca Blocks

What this trial studies

This study aims to enhance the accuracy of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia by integrating artificial intelligence to recognize anatomical structures in real-time. It consists of two phases: the first involves collecting sonoanatomical images from healthy volunteers to develop AI software, while the second phase will validate the effectiveness of this software in improving ultrasound visualization. The goal is to minimize complications during nerve block procedures and increase patient safety through better imaging techniques.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are healthy adults aged 18-65 who are willing to undergo ultrasound imaging.

Not a fit: Patients with comorbidities, those under 18 years of age, or individuals who are pregnant will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce complications associated with nerve block procedures and improve patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While the integration of AI in ultrasound imaging is a growing field, this specific approach to nerve blocks is novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
