What this trial studies

This randomized controlled trial will assess the effects of Modified Pilates Exercises on trunk control and balance in children aged 6-12 years with mild intellectual disability. Conducted over 8 weeks at Spectrum Clinic in Lahore, the study will involve 40 participants who will be randomly assigned to either a Modified Pilates group or a General Physiotherapy group. Outcomes will be measured using the Trunk Control Measurement Scale (TCMS) and the Pediatric Balance Scale (PBS) at baseline and after the intervention period. The study aims to determine if Pilates can enhance motor skills and independence in these children.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 6-12 years diagnosed with mild intellectual disability (IQ 50-70) who can follow instructions.

Not a fit: Patients with severe intellectual disability (IQ < 50) or significant physical and neurological conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve trunk control and balance, enhancing the quality of life and independence for children with mild intellectual disability.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited research specifically on Modified Pilates for this population, similar interventions have shown promise in improving motor skills and balance in children with disabilities.
