What this trial studies
This study evaluates whether a pharmacist-led educational intervention can effectively reduce the inappropriate use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) among adult patients in Ras Al Khaimah. Participants will receive educational materials aimed at both patients and physicians to promote evidence-based deprescribing practices. The study compares outcomes between those receiving the intervention and those receiving standard care, focusing on PPI use, patient quality of life, and healthcare costs.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older with potentially inappropriate PPI prescriptions who are presenting to outpatient departments.
Not a fit: Patients with definitive indications for PPI use or those unable to give informed consent will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to more appropriate use of PPIs, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with pharmacist-led interventions in medication management, suggesting a promising approach for this study.
