What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effects of comprehensive swallowing training and tongue-pressure resistance training on the swallowing and chewing functions of stroke patients with dysphagia. It will compare ultrasound imaging results of oropharyngeal muscle mass and function in patients with varying levels of swallowing ability. The study will enroll 60 stroke patients, assessing their swallowing and tongue functions, muscle mass, and quality of life through clinical evaluations and sonography. Additionally, 50 patients with dysphagia will receive different therapeutic interventions to determine the effectiveness of these treatments.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are stroke patients aged 18 to 80 years, diagnosed with or without dysphagia, and within 6 months of stroke onset.

Not a fit: Patients who have had a stroke for more than 6 months, are younger than 18 or older than 80, or have cognitive deficits affecting communication may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could significantly improve swallowing and chewing functions in stroke patients, reducing the risk of complications like pneumonia and malnutrition.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with similar therapeutic approaches for dysphagia in stroke patients, indicating potential for success.
