What this trial studies

This observational study aims to develop and enhance a toolkit called the 'High-Performance Checklist' (HPC) to improve the use of the Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) among surgical staff. The study will gather feedback from surgical clinical staff and patients who have undergone surgery in the last 90 days at Calgary's Peter Lougheed Centre through surveys, interviews, and team meetings. By iteratively refining the toolkit based on this feedback, the study seeks to improve the implementation and effectiveness of the SSC, ultimately enhancing surgical outcomes for patients.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include surgical clinical staff and patients over 18 who have had surgery within the last three months.

Not a fit: Patients who had surgery more than three months ago or are unable to participate in surveys or interviews will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical outcomes and enhanced patient safety through better implementation of safety protocols.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated the importance of tailored checklists in improving surgical safety, suggesting that this approach has potential based on earlier findings.
