What this trial studies

The STop UNhealthy Substance Use Now Trial (STUN II) is a multisite trial designed to evaluate various strategies for enhancing the implementation of screening and interventions for substance use disorders in primary care settings. It will compare the effectiveness of practice facilitation alone versus combinations of practice facilitation with learning collaboratives and performance incentives. The study aims to enroll 144 clinic staff from 48 primary care practices to assess how these strategies impact the uptake of evidence-based screening and interventions for substance use disorders. Additionally, it will explore factors that may influence the effectiveness of these implementation strategies.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are clinic staff members from primary care practices who have leadership roles and provide care for adult patients.

Not a fit: Patients who are not involved in primary care practices or who are not clinic staff members may not receive any benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this trial could lead to improved screening and treatment for substance use disorders in primary care, ultimately benefiting patients with these conditions.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar implementation strategies in improving substance use disorder interventions, indicating that this approach is promising.
