What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a Family-Clinician Collaboration program aimed at improving recovery outcomes for stroke patients experiencing spatial neglect. The program involves family members actively engaging with clinical staff to set goals, learn about spatial neglect, and assist in rehabilitation exercises. Participants will be compared to a control group receiving standard inpatient treatment, with assessments focusing on spatial neglect, patient independence, and caregiver well-being. The study aims to enhance both patient recovery and family support during rehabilitation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals who have experienced a unilateral right brain stroke, were functionally independent prior to the stroke, and have moderate to severe spatial neglect.
Not a fit: Patients with progressive neurological disorders, significant psychiatric disorders, or those living outside a 50-mile radius of the Kessler Foundation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve recovery outcomes for stroke patients with spatial neglect and reduce caregiver burden.
How similar studies have performed: While the concept of family involvement in rehabilitation is not entirely novel, this specific approach to addressing spatial neglect through structured collaboration has not been widely tested.
