What this trial studies
This initiative aims to enhance the identification and management of suicidal ideation and behaviors among Latinx youth in pediatric primary care settings. The approach involves training community health workers (CHWs) to improve suicide risk screening and early intervention strategies, particularly for families with limited English proficiency. The program will be piloted in four diverse pediatric practices over six months, focusing on safety planning and psychoeducation for parents. Stakeholder engagement will also be a key component to identify barriers and facilitators to implementation.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this program are Latino/Latinx youth with a history of suicidal ideation or behavior, whose guardians speak Spanish.
Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Latino/Latinx or whose guardians do not speak Spanish may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve the early identification and management of suicidal ideation in Latinx youth, leading to better mental health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies focusing on suicide prevention in youth, this specific approach utilizing CHWs in a primary care setting for Latinx youth is relatively novel.
