What this trial studies
This initiative focuses on enhancing the Healthy School Recognized Campus program, which promotes physical activity and nutrition among youth in Texas. The study employs a group randomized factorial trial using the Multiphase Optimization Strategy (MOST) framework to assess the effectiveness of various implementation strategies on the program's delivery and its impact on cardiovascular disease risk factors in students. Sixteen public elementary schools in North and East Texas will be randomized to receive different levels of support for the program, with the aim of identifying the most effective strategy for improving health outcomes in youth.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are public elementary school students in North and East Texas who are at least 10 years old and enrolled in the 5th or 6th grade.
Not a fit: Students with motor or cognitive impairments or other health conditions that hinder their ability to complete physical assessments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce cardiovascular risk factors in youth, leading to healthier long-term outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success in implementing school-based health programs, suggesting that this approach may yield positive results as well.
